I LOVE that his saddle slipped and he fell off! It really showed what a great job training that mustang he did, that it let him catch and readjust the saddle and get back on like nothing happen! I know a lot of “well trained horses” that would have bolted off for a joy ride, good luck catching them if that happen! lol
This man is truely an amazing rider. He has a gift sent straight from heaven !! I have had the privialge of riding with him and in that afternoon I learned so much. He even told me he would let me ride Christian the next time I come to ride with him!!!!! Talk about totally awesome He is such a nice down to earth guy I wish I had the money to put my horse in training with him Thanks for posting this video

Well yeah. But I guess there was some rich lady that adopted a bunch of them and had them all sterlized, then turned them out on some huge property somewhere. Too bad there aren’t more crazy-rich horse lovers out there..
It’s totally possible to do the surgery, but I’m mostly thinking after-care like pain meds and antibiotics and stall rest. Thats where it would get tricky. There are plenty of vets out there that would donate their time, I’m sure. But there are so many of them.
It makes me sad to think of all those horses sitting there in limbo. I sure hope they figure somthing out soon.
I know people that have had mares spayed because they were carriers of hereditary diseases that didn’t need to be passed on. It happens all the time. Abdominal surgery is getting much less invasive with new technology. I’m not saying it would be cheap necessarily but I’m sure there are at least a few horse loving vets out there that will be willing to donate some of their services. I know mine would.
That is AMAZING! What a bummer he fell off! Shoot, I’ve done that before…a clean slick horse, with new slick clean blankets= saddle slipage…but they still won! WOO HOO!
Gelding sure…gelding is easy and fairly cheap, but do you have any idea how hard it is to spay a HORSE?? Spaying a mare is just isn’t an option, I don’t think, unless they find another cheaper way to do a full hysterectomy on a horse. Who knows though, they might.
Exactly! There are just too many horses and not enough homes. I heard most of the horses sitting in those holding pens are starving to death because of lack of funding to get feed out there to ‘em or getting the “lot sickness” What’s more humane? Waiting for them to die a slow death while we twiddle our thumbs trying to decide what to do with them, or euthenizing?

Well, in a situation like what you described that is a good option, but the horse I was talking about was a perfectly healthy wild stallion. A couple of jack asses thought it would be fun, so they shot him in the hip. People saw he was injured and didn’t bother to call anyone for several days. That’s not a mercy killing..
Well it depends, if shot correctly, there should be no pain or suffering. The bullet moves so fast and is so destructive that death is immediate, even more so than euthanasia. If I had a horse down with no hope and the vet was 3 hours away, you better believe I would have it shot by a good shooter, rather than allow it suffer for 3 hours. It is kinder. But no, anyone who does not know what they are doing should not be doing retarded stuff like injuring horses and letting them wander around.
Oh, euthanasia is definitely better. But there are people out there that just shoot them. A stallion awhile back was shot. He wandered around injured for like a week before anyone did something about it. He had to be put down because of massive infection. That’s probably worst thing I can imagine.
Well that would be the best bet for sure! But as far as I know they are getting pretty strapped for money, the BLM I mean, and they don’t have enough people… oh god, they would need hundreds of vets and millions of dollars. Although spaying mares HAS gotten much easier lately. IF the situation does not improve, and IF there is no other option, believe me euthanasia is kinder than slow painful starvation. This has to become important enough to decision makers that something will be done.
Well, of course I agree that the population needs to be controlled, but I don’t think killing them is the answer. Why not bring them in and geld or spay them? Makes more sense than anything else, I think. We spay and neuter feral cats and turn them back out as well..
Yeah but they cannot adopt out all of those horses! That is why they have like 30,000 sitting in holding pens right now, having no idea what to do with them. I LOVE mustangs, I hope to have a few some day. But, they need to either start darting mares with birth control (as far as I know they have thought about it), castrating males or culling. Not to remove from the range, just to control. I don’t like it either, but what is better? Controlling population or starvation/ecological destruction?
Yeah, but it is illegal to kill a wild mustang or burro. That’s why the BLM holds annual round ups to get them adopted out to keep wild numbers manageable.

If there are too many of them, they die off anyway, a slow painful death of starvation. No one wants to “kill them off”. They want them on the range, but the populations have to be controlled… so that the land is not ruined. It affects wildlife too.
He never ceases to amaze me. Met him last year at the horse expo. Am looking forward to him training my filly this spring!
Amazing work and, hopefully, it will inspire some folks to stop killing our wild mustangs because it is not only cruel, but truly a loss for all Americans.
